The Joseph Phelps Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is silky and supple with intoxicatingly delicious fruit and floral notes, smooth tannins and an oh-so-long finish. It's ready to drink now, or be cellared until the right occasion, and it's a great price for a Napa Cab, let alone a Phelps Napa Cab... Don't let the posers on the web fool you; even if they have one or two, they don't offer free shipping on 6 bottles and the next thing you know, you're paying $6 more/bottle... Think bacon-wrapped anything as an appetizer to go with your first glasses. After that, it's beef, lamb, or pork, and even better if it's done on the grill or seared stovetop to get that caramelized sear which just makes the tannins sing. The spices and subtle earthiness of this Cali Cab is perfect for a lamb curry or tagine. Refill your glasses after the main course is done, and dive into a plum tart that's got a suggestion of star anise. The combo will stop you in your tracks. Cheers winelovers!
Robert Parker, Jr.'s Wine Advocate: "The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon is a blend of 93% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Cabernet Franc, 2% Merlot, 1% Petit Verdot and 1% Malbec. It is due to age in oak for 18 months, in 48% new (58% French, 42% American) and 52% two-year-old French and American oak barrels. Deep garnet-purple in color, it rolls effortlessly out of the glass with beautifully pure notes of fresh black plums, black cherries and crushed blackcurrants plus hints of cinnamon stick, tobacco leaf and charcoal. Medium to full-bodied, the palate hits the ground running with expressive black fruits and soft, supple tannins, lifted by just enough freshness and finishing pleasantly savory. (Tasted as a barrel sample.)" Mar 2021
Winery: "The Cabernet Sauvignon is ultra-concentrated with dense black fruit, anise, roasted coffee, ripe blueberries, cedar box and graphite. A fresh and focused wine with creamy texture and a long luscious mouth feel with dusty earth, baking spices, sweet vanilla and fresh fig notes."
