"Feels almost weightless, but has tremendous depth." ~ Wine SpectatorOur latest discovery hails from Washington, where the 2012 growing season was, as the vintner describes, 'near perfect'. It sure allowed this Baer Ursa to develop into a beautifully layered, structured red with loads of delicious winks of flavor. And it did make the Top 100 Wines of 2015 list at Wine Spectator, beating out 72 of the other contenders... Our first glasses were with a rustic pate de campagne, crusty French bread and tart cornichons on the side. A cheesy, homemade meat lasagne with mushrooms is the perfect comfort option, and it'll bring out the earth and herbs in this Columbia Valley red. Because we can't only have it once a year, we would pour this Ursa with roasted turkey breast and a curried cranberry chutney. And there's your hello to the ripe, lovely fruit... Pan seared rib lamb chops with fresh mint sauce will highlight the mint and floral notes of this beautiful Baer. As Julia Child used to say, bon apetit!
Wine Spectator: Rated Top 100 Wine of 2015, #28 Rank. "The core glows with ripe blackberry, dark plum, mint and floral flavors, gliding over lightly prickly tannins into the long and compelling finish. Feels almost weightless, but has tremendous depth. Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec. Drink now through 2020. 1,219 cases made." Sep 2015
Winery: "Our flagship wine, first created in 2000, continues to be our best-loved blend. The near perfect growing season of 2012 has yielded complex notes of ripe fruit – plum and cherry; and savory seasonings - wood smoke, roasted thyme, and cedar. A medium-bodied wine, it offers precise, structured tannins, and a lifted finish."
