"Super silky with a gorgeous density and precision" ~ James SucklingA stunning example of the award-winning work being done in Tuscany, this Castello di Ama San Lorenzo Chianti Classico Gran Selezione is one delicious mouthful, just like its name... This Tuscan treasure needs a bit more time in the bottle, so spend it wisely planning a meal fit for this beautiful red. When the time comes, let the wine breathe while you prepare a dish of bresaola drizzled with good olive oil and sprinkled with some flaky sea salt. We're channeling our inner Italian today, so recommend everything from a lasagna bolognaise with spinach to osso buco Milanese. Roast rack of lamb with garlic and rosemary will do nicely too. The powerful, intense nature of this Chianto Classico is ideal for these bold, meaty dishes, and its subtle spice notes will beckon any spices you add. If you're not feeling the meat, make it a hearty mushroom risotto. What more can we say winelovers?? We love this Castello di Ama!
James Suckling: "Tight and super silky with a gorgeous density and precision that gives great polish to the tannins. Makes them almost dusty. Lots of subtle dark berry, mineral and spice. Drink or hold."Aug 2016
Winery: "Chianti Classico San Lorenzo takes its name from the lovely valley that is home to the 18th-century Pianigiani and Ricucci villas. The wine is made entirely with grapes from Castello di Ama vineyards, which are all old plantings or plots planted over a decade ago, and which show the most mature, rounded extracts at time of harvest. The Gran Selezione label was a significant step for the Chianti Classico designation, representing the top of the quality pyramid. Wines in this category are a guarantee for the consumer, in terms of origin and of quality. The production protocol states that all grapes must be produced by the winery itself and the wine goes on sale 30 months from harvest."
