"The 2006 Chianti Classico Riserva hits all the high notes..." ~ Antonio Galloni's VinousOne of the oldest estates in the DOC, it dates back to the 1200s.
Inhale deeply and you just might be transported to a tiny trattoria in the heart of Tuscany. This is only one of the wonderful things which may happen when you first encounter the Castell'in Villa Riserva Chianti Classico. It's no wall flower. Rather, it's a big, bold, complex superstar of a red wine which has it all: ripe, dark fruit, ample acidity and tannins, spice and earth notes, and layers upon layers of tasty goodness. It's made for hearty, meaty dishes, so put away the puff pastry... Your call as to the complexity of the cuisine. Sear the heck out of a beautiful, thick cut of marbled steak after you've seasoned it liberally with your favorite seasonings and then finish it off in the oven. Meat sauces on sturdy, preferably homemade pastas, and tomato/red wine braising sauces will show off the pedigree of this wine like a stage and a spotlight. What's on your marquee for dinner?
Antonio Galloni's Vinous: "The 2006 Chianti Classico Riserva hits all the high notes. Ripe and structured, yet also wonderfully contained, the 2006 boasts stunning depth, power and richness. Readers will have to be patient, as the 2006 is also likely to require a considerable amount of time to come around. All the elements are in the right place for the 2006 Riserva to develop into a splendid wine. The mid-weight, firm style is classic Castell'in Villa. Drink 2016-2031." Aug 2013
Winery: "The Castell’in Villa Chianti Classico Riserva is made of Sangiovese grapes entirely from our best vineyards. The wine is blended and aged in oaks for 2-3 years. The wine ages very well and good vintages should be at their peak at an age of 6-15 years. The Castell’in Villa Chianti Classico Riserva is concentrated well-tannined and with an elegant fragrance for the eye and nose. The taste is complex, showing ripe fruit, black cherries and some deep earthy spicy tones."
