"Calera is one of the most compelling Pinot Noir specialists of not only the New World, but of Planet Earth." ~ Robert Parker, Jr.Josh Jensen, proprietor of Calera Vineyard, searched long and hard before he found the perfect site on which to grow Pinot Noir grapes. Mr. Parker and lots of other people are glad he did. This Calera Mills Vineyard Mt. Harlan Pinot Noir is a beautifully intense, down-and-dirty, earthy party on the palate that has hints of spice, herbs, flowers, cherries and more. Decant it for an hour, and then pour it to sip with a hearty spread of rustic pate de campagne, warm, crusty baguette, cornichons, and maybe a Spanish Manchego. Butterflied, grilled lamb with a shitake pilaf will work perfectly with the meaty side of this Calera. Roast duck with mission figs and black olives will show off its earthiness. Sauteed salmon atop pesto risotto is pairing genius. We don't envy you having to decide...

Robert Parker, Jr.'s Wine Advocate:"Jensen's 2013 Pinot Noir Mills Vineyard is a beauty! It possesses a medium ruby color and sumptuous notes of mulled cherries, raspberries, dusty earth, spice box and wild herbs. Medium-bodied, richly textured, balanced and lively, with good acidity and a great finish, this is a terrific Pinot Noir to drink over the coming decade (2016-2026).
Pulling from his estate vineyards located east of Monterey, in San Benito County and the Mount Harlan AVA, winemaker Josh Jenson can seemingly do no wrong. He produces beautiful whites and reds that are singular and packed with flavor. All of his 2013s are classic wines." Aug 2016
Wine Enthusiast: Designated Editors' Choice. "A fascinating feral quality wraps around this wine, redolent of mottled animal hair, raw meat and scraped earth, like the scene of a freshly hunted wild boar. Aromas of mulberry and dark strawberry also show on the nose, while the palate dives deep into turned earth, shiitake mushrooms, juniper, stewed bay leaf, wild cherry and elderflower liqueur. The acidity also pops and the texture grips firmly." Dec 2016
Winery: "2013 Mills Vineyard Pinot Noir possesses an alluring and deep, meaty bouquet of dark fruits, wet slate, white pepper and redwood bark. The palate is concentrated and bright with intense red fruit. Very fine grained yet taut tannins are beautifully integrated with dark black cherry, cranberry and a whisper of black licorice with a wonderfully persistent finish.
Calera’s Mt. Harlan Vineyards are located in the Gavilan Mountains 25 miles east of the Monterey Bay. The site was chosen for its limestone soils and ideal climate. At an average elevation of 2,200 feet it is among the highest and coolest vineyard sites in California."
