The pairings options are endless given the myriad of flavors in this remarkable Raymond. Rich, ripe fruit, baking spices and star anise, vanilla, cocoa and more. If you decide against stowing it in your cellar, we suggest grilling a rack of lamb which has been drizzled with olive oil and sea salt. Next to that, some rice tossed with lentils and torn fresh mint leaves, and eggplant your favorite way. It will awaken the gentle spices in this Napa Cab. Or, we love a thick New York strip too. Mix some coarsely cracked black pepper with sea salt and press it onto both sides of the steak and grill to perfection. When you make the creamy mashed potatoes to go with it, heat the milk or cream with a sprig or two of fresh rosemary in the pan; it will result in the most wonderfully subtle flavoring. Hang on; we're not done yet. Make sure you get enough of this Generations so that there will be at least one glass to go with the dark chocolate mousse for dessert. For optimal enjoyment, top it with brandied cherry or two. Who's ready to eat, winelovers??
Robert Parker, Jr.'s Wine Advocate: "The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Generations is a wine that comes from both St. Helena and Oakville and is 99% Cabernet Sauvignon, with the balance Petit Verdot. This beauty showcases how much Jean Charles Boisset has improved the quality of the Raymond wines. There are 2,112 cases of this wine, which has an inky purple color and a beautiful nose of licorice, toasty oak, blackberry, cassis, spice box and forest floor. The wine has great intensity, a full-bodied mouthfeel, terrific balance, and well-integrated acidity, tannin, alcohol and wood. It should drink well for 25-30+ years. Drink: 2015 - 2045.
One of the iconic wineries of Napa, Raymond Vineyards has been resurrected from its moribund state by the charismatic Burgundian transplant, Jean-Charles Boisset. One of the more exuberant and dramatic personalities of the wine world, his vision for quality and pursuit of it can often get lost in his gregarious, almost excessively contagious enthusiasm. This is the strongest lineup yet from Raymond Vineyards, with Boisset creating his own version of single-sector wines from different microclimates within Napa Valley, all of them outstanding. One of Boisset’s achievements, in addition to quality, is that all of their vineyards are now farmed organically or biodynamically." Oct 2015
Winery: "Dark ruby in the glass, our 2013 Generations Cabernet Sauvignon opens with alluring aromas of blackberry and boysenberry with subtle notes of vanilla and toasted oak. This velvety, dense wine offers flavors of raspberry, cassis and marionberry with a touch of rich mocha and subtle spice with a beautifully long finish. Well balanced with a full-bodied mouthfeel and intense flavors, enjoy this wine now or allow it to age for the next 25-30 years."
