Louis Latour Mersault White Burgundy 2005

  • Wine Spectator 89
Wine Spectator:  Rated as Very good: a wine with special qualities.  "A fresh, stylish white, with apple, lime and mineral aromas and flavors. Creamy in texture and supported by lively acidity, this lingers on the finish. Drink now through 2013."  Aug 2007

Winery:  "A lively wine with a lot of potential, forthright. Very pleasant citric aromas reminding us of lemony tangy summer flavors, yet has a slight fresh cut green grass and forest canopy hint. Will open up more as it evolves.  Typical Meursaults tend to be very full, mellow wines and mature somewhat sooner than the wines from the neighbouring communes of Puligny and Chassagne. The wine is full in the mouth and well-structured showing exotic fruitiness and a nutty, spicy character. It can be drunk when young but patience is amply repaid.

Situated just south of Volnay and Pommard in the Côte de Beaune, Meursault is the most extensive northerly white wine commune of the Côte-d’Or. The perfect south-easterly exposure and the stony, marl soil contribute greatly to the remarkable finesse of which the wines of Meursault are capable.

Wired For Wine:  The creamy texture combined with the lively acidity of the Louis Latour make it the perfect wine to go with lobster and shrimp.  How about a decadent lobster risotto?!  Merveilleux.  A white shrimp lasagna could be very interesting as well with this beautifully structured wine.  If you're feeling French, make sure that your first course is one of our favorites: Pissaladière.  It is an intoxicating, fantastique purée of cod, potatoes and lots of garlic.  To start, get some fresh ricotta, mix with your favorite fresh herbs, bake, and then spread on some warm walnut bread.  The toasted bread will pick up on this Meursault's nutty character, and the herbs in the ricotta will play up its finesse.  Lastly, we love this wine with a Roquefort.  Exquis!
