"This is a sensational Zinfandel." ~ Robert Parker, Jr.Mr. Parker loves this Limerick Lane Russian River Valley Zinfandel and the winery. A lot. We were lucky enough to get our hands on some of it, so you're welcome, cause it's not easy to find. It over-delivers on flavor and personality, and is ready to drink now. Really a phenomenal win-win. Stack a pile of mini flank steak tortillas on a plate and wolf them down with you first glasses. Duck breast with tamarind sauce is a great entree. The classic route would be sticky barbecued baby backs. If you're feeling your foreign cuisine, we say make it grilled Moroccan lamb kebabs with grapes. Once the applause have died down, open another bottle and bring out the aged Gouda. And curtain.
Robert Parker, Jr.'s Wine Advocate: "The 2014 Zinfandel Estate is primarily Zinfandel, but there are other grapes in this mixed black field blend, including Peloursin, Négrette, Syrah, Petite Sirah and Carignan. This is a sensational Zinfandel, with an explosive nose of pepper, raw meat, blackberry, black raspberry and cherry. Deep, chewy and dense, it finishes at 14.8% natural alcohol. The lusty, exuberant style of this wine makes it irresistible already, and it should continue to drink well for another 5-8 years. (2016-2024)
The owners of the well-known Marietta Cellars, the Bilbro family, have taken this once-moribund producer, Limerick Lane, and resurrected it to impressive heights of quality. This estate always had some fabulous terroirs spread among their 30 acres of relatively old-vine mixed black blends, dominated by Zinfandel and, to a certain extent, Syrah. They started with a difficult challenge, the 2011 harvest, but brothers Jake and Scott Bilbro hit pay dirt and have continued to build on that success with fabulous wines in 2012, 2013, and again with the following 2014s." ~ Robert Parker, Jr., Oct 2016
"If you haven’t caught on to the magic that is emerging from Limerick Lane, it’s about time." ~ Robert Parker, Jr.
Winery: "Our flagship wine, Benchmark Zinfandel is sourced from vines originally planted by Italian immigrants in the early 1900s. Seamless, with unparalleled clarity of flavor and aromas, this wine is a testament to the hands that have tended these vines for over a century. This little lane is undeniably special, undeniably unique. Varieties now all but extinct except where they are inter-planted in a few old Zinfandel vineyards--Peloursin, Negrette, and Petite Sirah-- add structure, color, and acid. The rocks, the dirt, the morning fog and the afternoon sun form an ideal microclimate that exists nowhere else. These special characteristics allow us to create wines of gravity and depth balanced by bright acidity, redolent of both the grit and the grace of our long history. "
