"The nose is a powerful combination of dark plums, espresso coffee, Belgian chocolate and shy hints of red cherries..." ~ Robert Parker, Jr.'s Wine Advocate

Looking to start your week off with a bang? We've got just what you're looking for: the Cuvelier Los Andes Coleccion. It's a powerful red blend crafted by the French Cuvelier family of vintners out of their Argentine winery. It's big and ripe, loaded with dense flavors of espresso, chocolate and oak, with mere suggestions of dark floral notes and substantial, yet well-integrated tannins, and it's ready to drink today. If you've mastered a good steak frites, this Coleccion is your man. A spring lamb ragu over pappardelle is another intoxicatingly good combo. Craving a vegetarian option? How about an earthy, garlicky wild mushroom sauce over whole wheat spaghetti? ¿C'est tres bien, no es así?

Robert Parker, Jr.'s Wine Advocate:  "The 2011 Coleccion Blend is a multi-grape blend consisting of 58% Malbec, 18% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Petit Verdot, 8% Syrah and 4% Merlot fermented in inox and partially aged in French oak barrels (60%) and is the top wine produced in 2011, a disastrous vintage for the winery, when 75% of their crop was destroyed by hail and they didn’t produce Grand Vin or Grand Malbec, so I suppose the best fruit went into this cuvee. For a cool vintage with plenty of challenges, the wine reached 15% alcohol, so don’t expect any green aromas or diluted flavors here. The nose is a powerful combination of dark plums, espresso coffee, Belgian chocolate and shy hints of red cherries with a full-bodied palate and abundant, fine-grained tannins, moderate acidity and good length, no doubt lifted by the alcohol. This is a big, ripe blend, slightly international, in need of some bottle aging. Drink 2015-2021.

The Cuvelier family of Leoville-Poyferre in St. Julien is one of several French investors with projects in Argentina. Their Argentine adventure in the Uco Valley is called Cuvelier Los Andes, and they are part of the Michel Rolland-driven Clos de los Siete group. " Apr 2014

Antonio Galloni's Vinous: "Bright, saturated medium ruby. Pure aromas of blackberry, licorice and dark chocolate are complemented by nutty oak and lifted by a violet topnote. Dense, concentrated and sappy; as primary as a barrel sample. Finishes with sneaky rising length and a serious tannic spine to support a slow evolution in bottle. Forget about this juicy, vibrant wine for at least a few years." Mar 2014
