Barba Colle Morino Montepulciano d Abruzzo 2006
Winery: "Full of cherry and plum fruit. A classic almond character on the nose. Full-bodied, nice texture with a very well-integrated tannins and lovely and elegant finish."
The Italian Cellar: An inexpensive treat from Barba, a small family winery situated in the north part of Abruzzo along the valley of the Vomano River and on the surrounding hills. This wine is terrific. Rich nose of dark berries and stone fruit. Velvety on the palate with nice acidity. Full, round finish and good length. Vinified and aged in stainless. Well made." September, 2009 LaVINIum (translated): "Fine fleshy notes of red rose petals are associated with cherry, black cherry, blackberry and ripe just a whispered hint of cocoa. The palate shows in the fresh acidity and tannin that is still vivid in the beginning, comforted by big fruit but also pepper nuances and a curious reminder of orange. May go well with many dishes like macaroni and meat sauce, cannelloni stuffed, skewered pork and sausage, diced veal in red sauce. Deserves four (stars) for the excellent quality and a very attractive price." January, 2008 Robert Francis Wine Review: "Nice purple black coloured wine – almost Ribena concentrate like. Really nice colour, hugely inviting. Fresh and clean wine on the nose. Cherries, blackberries and some pepper. On the palate it is the black fruits that really hit you first. The fruit is soft but not overly rich. It is much more old world ripe, lighter and savoury then a new world fruit bomb. Nice cherries, juicy red and black fruits. Textbook juicy acidity from a solid performing Italian red which has good acidity and fine tannins. A touch of minerality to this wine as well. Nice wine which would accompany a wide range of foods – some lovely ragu sauces, or beef carpaccio would be delicious." September, 2008 Wired For Wine: High quality fruit coupled with the winemaking expertise in well-equipped winery has yielded a splendid example of Montepulciano d’Abruzzo. Enjoy this Italian gem.
