Argyle Willamette Valley Pinot Noir 2008
Robert Parker, Jr.-The Wine Advocate: Rated as An outstanding wine of exceptional complexity and character. "The 2008 Pinot Noir Willamette Valley, medium ruby red, it gives up an enticing nose of cedar, spice box, rose petals, cherry, and raspberry. This is followed by a medium-bodied, ripe, vibrant offering with ample spicy red fruit flavors, good volume and intensity, and a medium-long finish. Drink it over the next 4-6 years.
Visiting with Rollin Sole, the head man at Argyle, is always a great learning experience. He is currently focused on Riesling, but that is a story for another day. As usual, the sparkling wine offerings are among the best made in the USA." Oct 2010
Wine Spectator: Rated as Outstanding: a wine of superior character and style. "Light and easygoing, with a real transparency to its pretty cherry, currant and guava flavors, mingling effectively with cream and delicate spice notes. This just doesn't quit on the finish. Drink now through 2015." Oct 2010
Winery: "You are all going to like this Pinot Noir. Besides the raspberry and cherry fruit aromas, this is the first
Willamette Pinot I’ve ever gotten bright boysenberry fruit aromas from! Deep underlying scents of fresh tilled earth and Eastern spice rack further add to the complexity and wonderful smell of this classic Willamette Valley Pinot Noir. The mouth-feel and flavor exceed what one expects from the already enticing smell. This wine has lovely balance for those red fruits wrapped up into a velvet-textured tannin shell. The center of the palate is cherry crème with bright minerality. Enjoy a long lasting finish accented by red cherry and a hint of dark chocolate."
Wired For Wine: We say this Argyle Willamette Valley Pinot Noir will absolutely seduce you with its beautiful volume and intensity, but the finish "that just doesn't quit" is what will really leave you begging for more. This Oregon Pinot has so many appealing facets that it will pair with a wide variety of foods. What's your pleasure? On the lighter side, chicken, salmon and pork loin are great options. This Willamette Valley red can easily handle the heartier fare, so bring on the beef, lamb and game if you so desire. Play up the ample spicy red fruit of this wine and serve a pork loin glazed with pomegranate and orange. The spice in this Argyle will shine with grilled salmon drizzled with your favorite Asian-style sweet-salty glaze. The cedar and earthy undertones will be perfect for braised short ribs with lentils, or a rustic white lasagna with wild mushrooms. While you consider the possibilities, we suggest a thick wedge of French Bucheron chevre cheese with simple crackers as you savor your first of (hopefully) many glasses of this ruby goddess. And afterwards, did somebody say "a hint of dark chocolate"? That's all we need to hear. Open another bottle and trot out a dense chocolate tart with a hazelnut crust. Oh it is on, winelovers!
